Baseball: Granville Central edges rival Webb

STEM The Granville Central baseball team needed all seven innings to take down baseball rival Webb on senior night.

The May 2 contest saw Granville Central move to 13-8 overall with the 7-6 win over the Warriors.

Webb jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Panthers wasted no time responding to Webb’s blast out of the gate.

Hunter Tressler was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Joe Delossantos to trim the lead to 3-1.

In the second inning, Granville Central picked up singles from Brady Smith, Austin Falls and Billy Blevins. The trio would score on a single from Wyatt Laws and a sacrifice bunt by Tressler.

Granville Central had a 4-3 lead going into the top of the third inning.

Neither team would score in the third or fourth inning, but the Panthers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Delossantos led off for the Panthers with single. JJ Tilley reached first on an error by the Warriors. Smith singled to drive in Delossantos and Tilley for a 6-3 Panthers lead.

Webb stunned the Panthers for three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score, but Granville Central rebounded to notch the walk-off win.

Delossantos started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by James Marshburn. Tilley hit the ball to the Nick Porterfield at shortstop. Porterfield fired the ball to first for the out. Greyson Wilkins caught Delossantos trying to score from third on the play and threw him out at the play.

With two outs, Smith came to the plate and delivered the game-winning RBI allowing Devon Padgett to cross the plate and the Panthers claimed the 7-6 win.

Wyatt Laws was the starting pitcher for Granville Central. Austin Falls came in to pick up the win. Laws worked 5.2 innings and Falls pitched 1.1 innings.
