Pecan Hill reunion

The Butner Church Council food pantry at Community United Methodist Church, 507 W. E St., Butner is open on Tuesdays from 1:30-3 p.m. and Wednesdays 5-6 p.m. The pantry serves anyone in need in the Butner and Stem area every 60 days. Identification is required.

The Pecan Hill community will celebrate its 30th reunion on Monday from 10 a.m-2 p.m. at Harris Park on Watson Street in Creedmoor. The purpose of the Pecan Hill Reunion Committee is to educate the community regarding the heritage of Pecan Hill.

Genealogical Society meeting

The Granville County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Thornton Library, 210 Main St., Oxford. Kathy Taylor, register of deeds for Granville County, will present a new incentive to encourage veterans to record their DD 214 (military discharge). The plan is to issue them a “Thank a Vet” photo ID card. This entitles the veteran to receive discounts from participating Granville County businesses. All veterans with a recorded DD 214 will be given a list of participating businesses, and will be instructed to show the Granville County photo ID to receive the discount or incentive.

All GCGS meetings are open to the public, and visitors and guests are invited to attend.

First Friday movie night

First Fridays in Creedmoor will present “Mary Poppins Returns” next Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lake Rogers Park.

Kona Ice will be on-site before the movie. Advance registration is not required and the event is free to attend. Follow the city’s website or social media pages for any weather-related event changes.

Brassfield Fire Department fundraiser

The Brassfield Fire Department, 1680 Highway 96 S., Franklinton will host a Fireman’s Day Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m-7 p.m.

FBC Academy Harvest Day vendors wanted

Vendors are wanted for FBC Academy Harvest Day on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Those interested in being a vendor can contact Amy Holder at 919-529-1307, ext. 201.

GriefShare at First Baptist Church of Butner

First Baptist Church of Butner, 200 West D St., Butner will host GriefShare on Monday nights from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 9. There is no cost to attend, and all are invited. For more information or to ask questions, call 919-575-6606.

Granville County Retired School Personnel meeting

Granville County Retired School Personnel will hold their first meeting of the 2019-2020 year at

George’s Oxford Village Family Restaurant on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. All retired school personnel in the county are invited to attend. The guest speaker will be Rev. Willie Ramey, president of the North Carolina Retired School Personnel.

BPS Community Watch meeting

Butner Public Safety will host its monthly Community Watch meeting at the Butner Town Hall, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. During each of these meetings information such as recent arrests, crimes and safety concerns are addressed to the public. Butner Public Safety also accepts any and all information or concerns from the public so that they can be resolved or addressed.

Alive After Five

The next Alive After Five Event, sponsored by the Granville Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Sept. 12 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the parking lot on Gillia Street in downtown Oxford. Music will be performed by Jim Quick & Coastline. Admission is free.
