Butner, Creedmoor ready for Christmas cheer

South Granville residents got their first taste of the Christmas season Sunday during the annual Stem Christmas parade, and now it’s Butner and Creedmoor’s turn to get in on the festivities.

It all starts Friday, Dec. 6 with the Creedmoor tree lighting and movie night, as well as the Butner Christmas in the Park. On Saturday, Dec. 7 the two towns will host separate Christmas parades at different times for area residents and visitors to enjoy.

Butner Christmas in the Park

The annual Christmas in the Park will be held Friday, Dec. 6 at Gazebo Park in Butner and will include a children’s time of visiting with Santa, Christmas music and entertainment, and the official lighting of the town’s Christmas tree.

Children can visit with Santa from 5-6:45 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m.

Creedmoor Tree Lighting and Movie Night

The city of Creedmoor will have its tree lighting and movie night Friday, Dec. 6 at City Hall, 111 Masonic St.

Two showings of “The Grinch” animated movie will be presented at 5 and 8 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature caroling and instrumentals by local Granville County students, hot chocolate and visits with Santa.

Downtown parking is available on Main Street, FBC Academy, First Baptist Church and Southern States. The event is rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to dress warm, bring an umbrella, their own chairs and cameras.

Butner Christmas Parade

The Butner Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. on Central Avenue. The cost to participate is $10 per entry. Nonprofit groups (churches, schools, etc.) have no entry fee. Participants line up on West G Street.

The Butner Community Association will host the parade and Christmas in the Park.

Creedmoor Christmas Parade

The annual Creedmoor Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. in downtown Creedmoor. Parade participants roll through with candy for all; there are plenty of floats and parade goers to make the day a festive event. The parade features a special Grand Marshal, holiday floats, marching bands, and of course, Santa himself.

The parade route will begin at the intersection of Main Street and East Church Street, and continue north on Main Street. The parade will end at the intersection of Main Street and Lake Road.
