Columbine survivor to speak at chamber banquet

CREEDMOOR — The Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s executive committee and board of directors announced this month that Kacey Ruegsegger Johnson, a survivor of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, will be the featured speaker at its annual banquet Jan. 27.

The 78th annual banquet will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Vance-Granville Community College civic center at the main campus.

Twenty years after the Columbine shooting, Johnson “shares her inspiring story with audiences across the U.S. as a speaker and author,” a press release said. She is the author of “Over My Shoulder.”

During the banquet, the chamber will award the John Penn Citizen of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding community service.

A buffet dinner will be served by Simply Delicious Catering of Creedmoor.

Invitations were sent through email instead of the postal service this year.
