Fletcher named coaches association 1A Player of the Year

BUTNER Drew Fletcher from Falls Lake Academy was recently named the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association public school 1A Player of the Year.

Fletcher, a junior, played multiple positions for the Firebirds. In any given game Fletcher could be found at shortstop or on the mound. He finished the season with a perfect fielding record with 18 putouts, 23 assists and four double plays.

While on the mound, Fletcher worked 35 innings and faced 137 batters. He allowed 22 hits, issued 10 walks and struck out 68 batters.

Fletcher dialed up a .60 ERA while putting together 4-1 record with two saves.

Fletcher was also a terror at the plate. He finished his junior year with a .558 batting average. He had 29 hits, 27 RBIs, three doubles, two triples and seven home runs.

In addition to capturing 1A Player of the Year honors, Fletcher was also named to the NCBCA all-state team.
