ELON Megan White, a freshman softball player at Elon University and a former South Granville High School standout, has earned co-Rookie of the Year in the Colonial Athletic Association.

White is listed as a catcher/first baseman for the Phoenix. She also earned all-CAA first-team honors and North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association all-state honors.

She was tapped as the CAA Player of the Week in late April. She led the Phoenix at the plate going 6-for-14 including four home runs and 10 RBIs in a series with Drexel.

White had previously earned CAA Rookie of the Week on April 8 and 15.

“Megan as a first year came in to Elon buying into and trusting the process,” Elon coach Kathy Bocock said. “This allowed her to grow into the player that she did throughout the season. She was a great teammate that was always upbeat and had a smile on her face which made her a joy to be around.”

White led all Phoenix players with a .320 batting average. She made the most of her 103 turns at bat with 33 hits, six doubles and 10 home runs. She led the team with 29 RBIs.

Her success on the field carried over to the classroom with White making the dean’s list at Elon during the spring semester.

To make the dean’s list, a student may not have a grade below a B-minus and a GPA of at least 3.50 in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

“Megan did not only have a great year on the softball field but did an amazing job in the class room – making the dean’s list,” Bocock said.

During her time at South Granville, White earned the 2016 MVP award of the state championship. She was selected all-district from 2015-17 and was tabbed as the 2A Player of the Year for District 3.
