CREEDMOOR — A man involved in a serious crash near Wilton Sunday morning died this week from his injuries, authorities said.
Another person was seriously injured in the crash, but her injuries are not life-threatening.
The wreck happened just before 7 a.m. in the 3100 block of N.C. Highway 56, between Hester Road and Tar River Road, according to the Brassfield Volunteer Fire Department, which responded to the crash.
Investigators with the N.C. Highway Patrol said a BMW passenger car, traveling east on the highway, was in the opposing lane of travel when it hit a Lincoln SUV head-on.
Images shared by the Brassfield fire department on Facebook showed the mangled remains of both vehicles.
Both drivers were taken to Duke University Hospital, Highway Patrol Sgt. William J. Henning said. Firefighters said one driver was air-lifted to the hospital.
The BMW driver, who was found to be at fault, was Marquez Durelle Saunders, 23, of Franklinton, Henning said. Saunders died at the hospital on Monday.
Henning could not provide an updated condition Wednesday for the other driver, Debra Lynn Moss, 60, also of Franklinton.
There were no other cars or passengers involved in the crash. No charges will be filed, Henning said.
