CREEDMOOR — The city of Creedmoor on Monday morning posted on social media that a gas main line had been hit by contractors working on phase 2 of the Cross City Trails.
The gas main was located at N.C. Highway 56 and Knight Street near the Golden Pond and Southerby subdivisions. Dominion Energy determined the leak was not at the mandatory evacuation level, but the city issued a voluntary evacuation for area residents.
The gas main was soon repaired, residents returned home, and construction continued on the Cross City Trails.
“The joint cooperation between the fire department, emergency management and the police department was tremendous,” Creedmoor Chief of Police Keith King said.
