Turkey Trot

Area Congregations in Ministry, the local food bank, will host the 15th annual Turkey Trot on Thursday, Thanksgiving morning. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Oxford United Methodist Church on College Street. The two-mile walk or run begins at 9 a.m. The entry fee is two cans of food or a cash donation in any amount to ACIM.

Granville Small Business Saturday

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce has announced its support and recognition of Small Business Saturday on Saturday to support small, local, independent businesses in Granville County. Now in its 10th year, Small Business Saturday has been embraced as part of the holiday shopping tradition as each year shoppers, businesses and public officials come together to shop small and show their neighborhood pride. Continuing the five-year tradition, shopping bags with promotional items will be available at the chamber’s annual Thanksgiving breakfast today at Oxford Baptist Church.

Fresh wreath-making fundraiser

The Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association of Granville & Person Counties is offering a holiday wreath-making workshop Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon in the auditorium of the Person County Office Building (304 S. Morgan St., Roxboro). This event is a fundraiser in support of EMGVAGP’s future community volunteer projects. A $25 registration fee (cash or check only) will cover everything needed to create one festive holiday wreath. Included will be the wreath form, wire, live greenery and ribbon. Registration is required by Monday, Dec. 2. Call 336-504-2815 to reserve a place or ask for more information. Seating is limited. Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be available to assist participants in creating their holiday wreath creation.

Candle-making workshops

The Granville County Beekeepers Association will host beeswax candle-making workshops Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Granville Expo Center, 4185 U.S. Highway 15 S., Oxford. Space is limited, sign up online at: https://squareup.com/store/GCBA or email granvillecobeekeepers@gmail.com.

Community Watch meeting

Butner Public Safety will host its monthly Community Watch meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at Butner Town Hall. During each of these meetings information such as recent arrests, crimes and safety concerns are addressed with the public. Butner Public Safety also accepts any and all information or concerns from the public so that they can be resolved or addressed. For more information contact Sgt. N. Williams at 919-575-6561, ext. 111. Butner Public Safety encourages everyone to keep their parked vehicles locked.

Santa Paws

Coldwell Banker Advantage will team up with the Granville County Animal Shelter for Santa Paws on Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. at 2555 Capitol Drive Suite A, Creedmoor to meet and try to find adoptive homes for the puppies at the shelter. There will also be free photos with Santa and free hot dogs.

Volunteers needed for tax assistance program

The Mount Vernon Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is seeking volunteers to help provide tax assistance in the nearby communities. The VITA program serves the elderly and low-to-moderate income families with preparing their income tax returns. Training will start soon.
