Butner Church Council food pantry

The Butner Church Council food pantry at Community United Methodist Church, 507 W. E St., Butner is open on Tuesdays from 1:30-3 p.m. and Wednesdays 5-6 p.m. The pantry serves anyone in need in the Butner and Stem area every 60 days. Identification is required.

Outdoor Movie Night

First Fridays in Creedmoor Outdoor Movie Night will present “Mary Poppins Returns” today at Lake Rogers Park at 8 p.m. Kona Ice will be on-site at 7 p.m.

Advance registration is not required and the event is free of charge.

Back-to-school giveaway

Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church will host its annual back-to-school giveaway on Saturday from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. in the South Granville High School parking lot, Highway 56, Creedmoor. School supplies, book bags, clothing and shoes for all ages and sizes will be given away. All items are free. Children must be with their parents for school supplies and book bags. 27th singing anniversary

A celebration for Sister Shirley McCaden’s 27th singing anniversary will be held Saturday at Northern Granville Middle School Auditorium, 3144 Webb School Road, Oxford.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. For more information contact Shirley McCaden at 919-939-3789.

Parent and child recreation program

Creedmoor Recreation will present “Monet & Sorbet,” the first parent and child recreation program inspired by the Merlot & VanGoh sessions, and will be held at Carolina Cotton, 207 North Main St., Creedmoor on Sunday from 4-6 p.m.

Advanced registration is required and the $50 program fee includes two reserved seats, aprons and supplies.

Community Watch meeting

Butner Public Safety will be host its monthly Community Watch meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Butner Town Hall. During each of these meetings, information such as recent arrests, crimes and safety concerns are addressed to the public. Butner Public Safety also accepts any and all information or concerns from the public so that they can be resolved or addressed. For more information contact Sgt. N. Granville new teacher homecoming and tailgate

Granville Health System and the Granville County Chamber of Commerce will welcome new teachers with a homecoming tailgate on Tuesday, Aug. 13 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford.

New teachers to Granville County who are representing Falls Lake Academy, Granville County Public Schools and Oxford Preparatory are invited to enjoy typical tailgate food and games on the lawn.

Chamber members are invited to bring a table and tent and share information about businesses and upcoming events.

Alive After Five

The next Alive After Five event will be held Aug. 15 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the VanNess Chevrolet Parking lot, North Main Street, Creedmoor.

The Attractions Band will provide the music. Admission is free.
