Candle-making workshops

The Granville County Beekeepers Association will host beeswax candle-making workshops Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Granville Expo Center, 4185 U.S. Highway 15 S., Oxford. Space is limited, sign up online at: or email

City of Creedmoor Tree Lighting and Movie Night

The city of Creedmoor will have its tree lighting and movie night tonight at City Hall, 111 Masonic St. Two showings of “The Grinch” animated movie will be presented at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature caroling and instrumentals by local Granville County students, hot chocolate and visits with Santa. Downtown parking is available on Main Street, FBC Academy, First Baptist Church and Southern States. The event is rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to dress warm, bring an umbrella, their own chairs and cameras. For more information visit

Creedmoor Christmas Parade

The annual Creedmoor Christmas Parade will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in downtown Creedmoor. Parade participants roll through with candy for all; there are plenty of floats and parade goers to make the day a festive event. The parade features a special Grand Marshal, holiday floats, marching bands, and of course, Santa himself. The parade route will begin at the intersection of Main Street and East Church Street, and continue north on Main Street. The parade will end at the intersection of Main Street and Lake Road. Butner Christmas in the Park and Butner Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas in the Park will be held today at Gazebo Park in Butner and will include a children’s time of visiting with Santa, Christmas music and entertainment, and the official lighting of the town’s Christmas tree. Children can visit with Santa from 5-6:45 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m. The Butner Christmas Parade will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. on Central Avenue. The cost to participate is $10 per entry. Nonprofit groups (churches, schools, etc.) have no entry fee. Participants line up on West G Street. The Butner Community Association will host the parade and Christmas in the Park. Live Nativity

Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will present its live Nativity today and Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at 2677 N.C. Highway 56, Creedmoor.

Community Watch meeting

Butner Public Safety will host its monthly Community Watch meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at Butner Town Hall. During each of these meetings information such as recent arrests, crimes and safety concerns are addressed with the public. Butner Public Safety also accepts any and all information or concerns from the public so that they can be resolved or addressed. For more information contact Sgt. N. Santa Paws

Coldwell Banker Advantage will team up with the Granville County Animal Shelter for Santa Paws on Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. at 2555 Capitol Drive Suite A, Creedmoor to meet and try to find adoptive homes for the puppies at the shelter. There will also be free photos with Santa and free hot dogs.

Santa at the library

Santa will be at the South Branch Library on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 4-6 p.m. at 1550 S. Campus Drive, Creedmoor. He and his elves will be there for pictures, greetings and listening to Christmas wishes.

Volunteers needed for tax assistance program

The Mount Vernon Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is seeking volunteers to help provide tax assistance in the nearby communities. The VITA program serves the elderly and low-to-moderate income families with preparing their income tax returns. Training will start soon. For more details, call 919-528-2715 and ask for Donnie Jones.
