Herman Thomas, H.T. “Whitey” Jones Jr., 83, a longtime resident of Granville County, passed away Friday, Aug. 30 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham.
Herman was a native of Granville County and the son of the late Herman Thomas Jones, Sr. and Elsie Boyd. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Butner and was an automotive technician and owner/operator of South Granville Car Care in Butner for many years.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Butner by Dr. Charlie Bryan. Burial was in South Granville Memorial Gardens in Stem.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara J. Rayborn, Eloise J. Bailey (Donnie) of Creedmoor, Cheryl J. Klinefelter (Barry) of Stem, son, Thomas D. Jones of the home, a brother, Dallas Champion (Emily) of Butner, five granddaughters, three grandsons, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Daniel Jones, his sisters, Ann Brassell and Ellen Wilkins.

Visitation was held from 12:30-2:45 p.m. prior to the funeral in the Family Life Center of the church and other times at the home.
