Man shot dead at Oxford home; 67-year-old charged with murder

OXFORD — An Oxford man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed another man at a home in Oxford this week, according to a press release from the Granville County Sheriff’s Office.

David Ray Allen, 67, of 4058 Pine Tree Hollow, faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by felon in the shooting death of Andre Downey, 42, police said.

Deputies were dispatched to 4055 Richard Lane in Oxford this week in response to a report of a shooting, the release said. Upon arriving at the home, Downey was found suffering from a gunshot would. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen was taken into custody at the residence and is being held without bond at the Granville County Detention Center. He will appear in court July 15.

Police have not discussed a motive for the killing.
