Granville County Briefs
The individuals and staff of Murdoch Developmental Center will host Farm Day 2019 on Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be musical entertainment and a classic car display, plant sale, games, food and raffle prizes. Farm Day is Murdoch’s primary annual fundraiser to help meet the special needs of the intellectual/developmental challenged people who live at the center.
The town of Butner will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Butner Athletic Park, 1105 W. B St., Butner.
Stem National Night Out
National Night Out will be held in the town of Stem at the Stem Ruritan Club on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
Genealogical Society meeting
The program for the Thursday meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society will be presented by Kathy Taylor, register of deeds for Granville County. The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm in the conference room at the Richard H. Thornton Library, Oxford. All GCGS meetings are open to the public.
Annual Beef Roast
Community United Methodist Church, 405 West E Street, Butner will have its annual Beef Roast on Friday, Oct. 4 from 4-7 p.m. at the education building at the church. There will be eat-in and take-out available. Plates of slow cooked roast beef, baked potato, slaw, bread, dessert and tea will be available for $10. The event supports the missions of the church. Family night line dancing
First Fridays in Creedmoor will host a night of line dancing at the First Baptist Church Activity Center, 119 S. Main St. on Friday, Oct. 4 from 6-8 p.m. The event will be instructed by Creedmoor resident Tracie Green. Casual attire and comfortable shoes are recommended. No flip flops, slides or sandals allowed.

113th Harvest Show
The Lord Granville Agricultural Heritage Association will hold its 113th annual Harvest Show on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m at the corner of 12th and G streets in Butner.
A tractor parade will go through town on Saturday. The event will include food, tractor games, antique tractor, equipment, Mama’s Kitchen old time cooking, farm shop, blacksmith demonstrations, free games and rides for children.
Daily admission is $5, two-day admission is $8 and children 12 and under are free. Proceeds support benefit the scholarship program of LGAHA.

FBC Academy Annual Harvest Day
First Baptist Church Academy will host the Annual Harvest Day on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m-1 p.m. Admission is free. The event will feature a silent auction, local vendors, carnival food, live animals, crafts, inflatables, games, hayrides and multiple raffle items.

Movie in the Park
The Butner Community Association and the town of Butner will host a family movie night showing Disney/Pixar’s animated movie, “COCO,” which is about the fun adventures of an aspiring young musician named Miguel, on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Bring chairs and blankets. The event is free to attend.
Roberts family reunion
The descendants of John P. Roberts will have a family reunion Saturday, Oct. 12 at Redwood Ruritan Club, 4803 Cheek Road, Durham from 11 a.m-4 p.m.
Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish. Paper products and utensils will be provided. Donations will be accepted to defray the costs of the club rental, supplies, etc.

Creedmoor Firemen’s Day
Creedmoor Firemen’s Day will be Saturday, Oct. 12. It is the Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department’s only fundraiser of the year. It begins with a parade at 3:30 p.m. Barbecue and home-cooked stew will be sold until 7 p.m. Barbecue will be $8 per pound and Brunswick stew will be $8 per quart.
The Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department is registering entrants for their 2019 Firemen’s Day Parade Businesses and civic groups interested in having a float or entry in the parade should phone or text 919-368-6470 and leave a brief message with their contact information.
Parade entries (with the exception of fire department ladder trucks) will line up on East Church Street beginning at the stoplight at the First Baptist Church. Entrants are encouraged to take N.C. 56 to Hawley School Road to Church Street, then turn right on Church Street and enter the parade formation at the first available spot.
One Step 5K
The third annual One Step 5K will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at Community United Methodist Church, 405 W. E St., Butner.
