OXFORD — A 23-year-old Oxford man died Sunday when his car ran off a road and struck a tree.

The N.C. Highway Patrol said Darin O'Bryan Webb was killed as the result of a crash on West Antioch Road near Stone Lane just south of Oxford.

The crash happened at 11:26 p.m.

According to Sgt. William J. Henning with the Highway Patrol, Webb was driving a Honda Accord south on Antioch Road. He was speeding as he approached a curve, overcorrected, and ran off the right side of the road, Henning said. Webb's car then hit a tree. Webb was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Henning said. Webb was the only person in the car.

No charges were filed.

Another serious crash was reported earlier on Sunday on N.C. Highway 56 near Wilton.

According to the Brassfield Volunteer Fire Department, that crash happened in Granville County in the 3100 block of the highway, between Hester Road and Tar River Road.

Images of that crash from firefighters showed several mangled cars. One person was airlifted and has reportedly died.

The N.C. Highway Patrol could not provide details about that crash, those involved, or the investigation by press time.
