FRANKLINTON — Authorities have charged a Raleigh man with robbing a woman at gunpoint after he paid her for sex.
Jamel Manning, 46, allegedly met the victim at a home on Rustic Ridge Road, north of Franklinton, on Monday, according to Terry Wright, chief of staff at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim told detectives that she told Manning she needed help paying her bills. Manning agreed to give her $100 if she had sex with him.
Afterward, Manning pulled out a gun and demanded the money back, Wright said. Manning allegedly ran off with the money, but was pulled over by Franklinton police a short time later after the victim reported the incident.
Manning, of Holly Ridge Farm Road in Raleigh, was charged with armed robbery and soliciting prostitution and was held under a $65,000 secured bond.
The victim was cited for prostitution, Wright said.
