OXFORD — Detective Keith Campbell with the Granville County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding the identity of a person wielding an assault rifle outside of the Bridgestone Bandag in Oxford shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 23.

According to the sheriff’s office, the subject, thought to be a male, was wearing camouflage face mask with round eyelets that draped past its shoulders. A release stated that the subject entered the parking lot of Bridgestone Bandag, LLC driving a 2007 silver Chevrolet Impala. The subject parked by the Smoke Shack (breakroom) and exited the vehicle with an assault rifle.

According to the sheriff’s office, there is no information available that the subject made verbal contact with any employees or entered the plant. Two Bandag employees fled the area of the Smoke Shack (breakroom) once they saw the subject exit the vehicle with the rifle.

The vehicle was last seen making a left turn onto West Industry Drive headed toward Ideal Fasteners. The vehicle entered the parking lot of Bandag at 9:38 p.m. and exited at 9:41 p.m.

The sheriff’s office is asking that if anyone has information or was traveling on West Industry Drive near Bandag during that time to call the Granville County Crime Stoppers at 919-693-3100.

The Granville County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
