LOUISBURG — Despite a heavy downpour the Granville Central Panthers topped 1A rival Louisburg 11-2 in soccer on Monday.
To make the dreary conditions worse, Granville Central’s head coach Gregg George was under the weather and coached using FaceTime.
The opening half saw Granville Central take a 6-1 lead and the Panthers nearly matched that in the second half with five goals scored against the Warriors. Louisburg managed one goal in the second half but could not generate much offense against a tough defense.
Devon Padgett led the team with four goals and three assists. Jovani Carmen had two goals and one assist. Kevin Cifuentes finished with one goal and two assists. Alan Trejo and Benito Perez each had one goal and one assist.
Mario Mendez and Grayson Howerton each finished with a goal and Steven Rea had one assist for Granville Central.
Landon Parrott and Joel Garcia had two saves apiece for the Panthers.
Granville Central will host South Granville on Monday and Roanoke Rapids on Wednesday. Both are critical conference matches.
