The Butner Knights of Columbus will sponsor an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner today at United Methodist Church, 507 West E. St., Butner from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Eat-in or take-out. The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, homemade sauce, salad, bread, dessert and a drink. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children and kids up to age 5 are free.
The Granville County Senior Center in Oxford will hold its 10th annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. More than 20 vendors will be on-site selling handmade crafts and other goods. There will be tobacco stick crafts, quilted items, baked goods, wreaths and many other selections. A hot dog lunch and raffles will also be offered. Fall Hike at Lynch Creek
Tar River Land Conservancy will host a fall hike along Lynch Creek on scenic Lynch Creek Farm owned by TRLC supporters Bob Radcliffe and Kerry Carter on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Enjoy the fall colors and learn about the conservation easement, the creek, plants, wildlife and the forests that buffer the creek. Hike level: moderate. After the hike, enjoy lunch at the cabin. Bob Radcliffe will provide an overview of the Ben Franklin Society’s “Franklin County Grist Mill Inventory” Research Project. Pre-registration required. FLA fall festival
Falls Lake Academy will host a fall festival Saturday from 5-9:30 p.m. and will include the following: Free Trunk-or-Treat at 5 p.m. until candy is gone; carnival games and bounce house from 5-7:30 p.m.; spooky hayride 5-7:30 p.m.; zombie run 5-8:30 p.m.; haunted house 5-8:30 p.m.; Historic Hobgood Trail Ride (formerly known as Trail of Terror) from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $1 each; wristbands available.
Community Campfire and movie at the Lake
The 10th annual Community Campfire and second annual Movie at the Lake will be Saturday at Lake Holt, 1200 Lake Holt Road, Butner. The campfire starts at 6 p.m. to roast marshmallows and make s’mores and the movie “Smallfoot” will begin at 7 p.m. Both activities are free. LakeSide Grill be open for both events. Concerned Bikers Association Turkey Shoot
Granville County CBA will host their Annual Turkey Shoot at the Lodge located at 1639 NC Highway 50, Creedmoor from 7-10 p.m. on the following dates: Nov. 2, 9, 16 and 23. All rounds are $5. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. The association reserves the right to exclude any firearm.
South Granville band fundraiser
The South Granville High School Band’s annual fruit fundraiser will continue next week. Basketball clinic for officials
A basketball clinic for officials will be held at Granville Central High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Those interested in training to become a basketball official for Tri-County Officials Association can call Ronald Edwards at 919-939-1998 for more information.
The Granville County Senior Center in Oxford, along with Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, will host the annual veteran’s breakfast on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. The event will be held at the Granville County Convention and Expo Center and will include a catered breakfast, speakers and a pinning ceremony. Genealogical Society meeting
The Granville County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Thornton Library in Oxford. Allen Dew, society webmaster, will give a presentation on the newest version of the RootsMagic genealogy and family tree software. The speaker will discuss an overview of how to get started with RootsMagic, converting from other genealogy software, navigating around family data, creating reports from data, and synchronizing data with family search and ancestry. All GCGS meetings are open to the public, and visitors and guests are invited to attend.
Toys for Tots
Registration has begun for Toys for Tots 2019 with the Christian Faith Center of Creedmoor. The deadline is next Friday, Nov. 8. Contact the main office at 919-528-1581, ext. 100 or send an email firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information: parent’s or legal guardian’s name, full mailing address, daytime phone number, and email address. For the child(ren), provide first/last name of child, birthdate (mm-dd-yyyy), current age and gender. Toys will only be available for ages up to 12.
A health fair will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Youngs Memorial Holy Church, 1379 Brookston Road, Henderson in the dining hall. Call 252-492-1610 for more information. A ZYTO health scan will be presented free to all.
Annual food drive/Blessing Bags
The Butner Church Council is made up of churches in the Butner and Stem area. Each year, representatives from the churches distribute Blessing Bags to Butner neighborhoods to collect non-perishable food items. The bags will be distributed Sunday, Nov. 10 and will be picked up the following Sunday, Nov. 17. The full bags will be taken to the First Baptist Church of Butner at 200 W. D St. Each Blessing Bag has a list of items being collected. Volunteers use the donations to put together Thanksgiving Food boxes for qualified families in the Butner and Stem area and also to stock the Butner Church Council food pantry. Fall clean out and collection
The Fall Clean Out Recycle and Collection Event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Granville County Expo Center, 4185 US Highway 15, Oxford. Some of the items accepted include pain, pesticides, electronics, medications, scrap metal and batteries. Secure document shredding will be on-site also. The Granville County Humane Society will be collecting dog and cat food, leashes, collars, crates, pet beds, kitty litter, etc.
