CREEDMOOR - The Vikings won the Friday night football game against non-conference opponent Orange High by a 20-15 margin.
With the win, coach Mike Hobgood joined the 100 win club for North Carolina high school football coaches. Hobgood is one of 58 coaches to achieve this accomplishment.
South Granville took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a quarterback sneak. The Vikings tacked on another touchdown early in the second quarter and led 14-0 at the half.
Orange answered with nine points in the third quarter. Ian Lipsey blocked the extra point attempt to help the Vikings maintain a five point cushion.
South Granville tacked on another touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Orange came right back and scored, but the Vikings managed to hang on for the 20-15 win.
Hobgood said, "Tonight was about being able to overcome adversity. We shot ourselves in the foot several times tonight, but we work through the mistakes to win the game."
The Vikings moved to 1-2 on the season with the win. South Granville will host Southern Nash on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
