Vikings edge rivals in Wells Fargo Cup

CREEDMOOR South Granville finished second in the Northern Carolina 1A/2A Wells Fargo Cup standings. The Vikings finished with 88.5 points to lead all area teams.

Roanoke Rapids captured the Wells Fargo Cup crown. The Yellowjackets finished with 96 points and picked up key Cup points with a championship in baseball, men’s golf and tennis.

South Granville captured points for a softball championship and a first-place finish in girl’s soccer to push them just ahead of Granville Central.

Granville Central had a strong finish in baseball and a championship in men’s and women’s track. The Panthers finished in third place in the Wells Fargo Cup competition with 77.5 points.

Bunn (73), Louisburg (62) and Vance County (58.5) topped Webb (42) and Warren County rounded out the conference Cup standings with 23.5 points.

North Central Athletic Conference

The Franklin Academy Patriots claimed first place in the Wells Fargo Cup standings for the 1A North Central Athletic Conference with 76 points.

The Patriots won championships in women’s soccer, men’s golf and men’s and women’s track. Voyager Academy was second with a men’s tennis championship, a second-place finish in men’s track and a third-place finish in baseball. Voyager Academy finished with 65 points.

Roxboro Community totaled 56 points and Falls Lake Academy captured 49 points. Vance Charter (44), East Wake Academy (37), Oxford Preparatory (36) and Henderson Collegiate (29) round out the North Central Athletic Conference Wells Fargo Cup standings.

The Wells Fargo Cup, formerly The Wachovia Cup, has been presented to the high school with the overall best interscholastic sports program in the 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A classifications.
